It is not just a Compass that has been stretched with that little bit of extra room slapped on to the rear; quite a few body panels in the Meridian have had to be modified. The third row of twin seats in the cabin draws our attention as further evidence of the lengthening. The Meridian's cabin has undergone the most significant changes as a result of it. The Meridian's third row is a little dismal. The floor is extremely high, making entry and exit a little difficult. Even in the second-row, however, has seats that are big enough for three adults to fit comfortably, a roomy sensation from the large windows. The Meridian gets all the features of the Jeep Compass and basically the same interior.
There is only one engine available for the Jeep Meridian, and it is a diesel. The Meridian's size and weight make the diesel's torque delivery at lower rpm levels and better usability at slower speeds the ideal choice, even if competing 3-row SUVs in smaller and more affordable price ranges use petrol engines. This diesel engine is believed to improve the car's handling and comfort when driving off-road as well. The same 2-liter multijet II turbocharged diesel engine from the Compass, in the same state of tune, is provided for the new 3- row Jeep. The engine produces the same 350Nm of maximum torque and 170hp of maximum power. The top-tier Meridian Limited 4X4 (four-wheel drive) model may be ordered with only the automatic transmission, whereas the 6-speed manual or the 9-speed automatic transmissions are available for the 4X2 version.
