Last Christmas
From: Last Christmas (1984)
George Michael wrote and produced Last Christmas when he
was part of Wham! The song was a single from the Edge of
Heaven, the last studio album of the British duo. The song talks
about a love breakup and the moment when you meet your ex
the following year. With over two million copies sold, Last
Christmas is the best-selling British single of all time but never
reached number one. Like any good classic, it has been one of
the most covered songs in the history of music.
On February 28, 1986, Wham!, separated. Michael had already
achieved popularity in the ‘80s as a member of the group, but it
was after separating from his artistic partner that he
established himself as the undisputed star in the history of pop
and soul with songs like a careless whisper or Jesus to a child.
Influenced by funk and soul music, Wham! were an English pop
duo formed in Bushey in 1981. The duo consisted of George
Michael and Andrew Ridgeley. They became one of the most
commercially successful pop acts of the 1980s, selling over 30
million certified records worldwide.
